Announcing the New Dome Round Seris 272 Brushes!
For several years I have been working with Shirley Miller at Loew-Cornell developing a brush that will soften and blend acrylic paint to create a perfect highlight, cheek, and enable me to blend values easily.
The brush is finally here and fresh on the market! It is called a “dome round” series 272. The handles are a pretty jewel green. It comes in 4 sizes: extra small – xs- just perfect to soften final highlights and snowman cheeks, small –s- works wonderfully to blend light values on fruit and petal rolls, medium-m-I use this brush to blend shading values and light values on larger objects, large –l- this brush works great when softening backgrounds and large surface area.
To blush a cheek just touch a liner or small round in Folk Art Extender and blush color. Apply small dot of paint to cheek area, then using the xs dome round brush cover the dot, apply and release pressure once or twice and walk away.
When painting the light value on larger objects I generally apply thin film of Folk Art Extender to surface, load and apply color to surface with liner or small round. Soften color by covering the paint with the small dome round brush, while applying pressure soften paint in a small circular area.
Bringing the dark shading values out far enough on large objects like crocks can be difficult by floating color. Painting dark values in crescents or triangles is also challenging using floated color. Try applying a thin film of Extender to area; the paint and using the large dome round to soften the edge. If ever I pick up excess paint I just dry wipe the dome round on the damp area of my paper towel and then continue blending or softening.
For any large area or background area using Extender and the large dome round to soften makes hazing in the background colors easy.
I always dry wipe excess paint out of the dome round on the damp area of my paper towel and avoid rinsing in water until I am finished with that sitting. Avoid using damp or wet brushes when using Extender as water dilutes and destroys the extending properties.
