Welcome Message
The fall is pretty hectic for me, getting ready for New England Traditions (NET), my local classes and seminars. As hard as it is for me to pull my autumn -Thanksgiving decorations out during this time, it is always worth the effort.
I have so many unique, fun and beautiful pieces I did for and during this season, along with that, all the normal decorations-collected through the years, like a ceramic lighted pumpkin, and paper mache ghosts one of my boys made.
Even though I am busy and many of my "things" are outdated or missing a pipe cleaner arm, I love them all. I have one large cabinet, with cedar paneling behind it that I am using just for seasonal things like these or painted pieces that are a little outdated and dinged but the memories they evoke make you say, "seems like yesterday". The kind that talk to you and you can't hurt their feelings by leaving them in the box, the paintings that bring back memories of early painting days, first fall class ever taught and the craft fair piece that never sold and you couldn't figure out why - you loved it!
By setting this area aside just for this - I find it easier to bring out and reacquaint myself with some of my older paintings or paintings that were designed for packets or seminars along with my newer designs and inspirations.
I hope you can find a place in your home that allows or gives you the freedom to use your paintings in a way they were probably designed to do -decorate!
Happy Fall

Witches
I have witches (and witches paraphernalia -to keep on the safe side). The tall standing witch I won at the SDP convention in Salt Lake City, it was one of several center pieces that year.
My "Witches Party" and the "Treat" bentwood container were favorite pattern Packets of mine from years back. The small witches were painted by friends or purchased at craft fairs along with the witch doll.
I love the "Ghost Crossing". This sign was painted for our son Tim by his Grandmother Ruth Beck along with several of the little cut outs. The oblong trick or treat box is a Helan Barrick design. I painted it before I started to add my first name to my signature!

The Holidays
I love decorating my home for the Holidays. I have to admit it takes some time, but I never regret a second. Every year I pick a different theme and colors to decorate with - the inspirations have come from all different areas. They have included wrapping paper colors, ribbon color, gilded fruit, colonial look, new colors, even revolving around the surprise in some unopened gifts!
I love the smell of fresh cedar and pine and I am fortunate that I have lots of fresh greenery, here at home, to cut and use - There are always red, blue or white berries of some sort to add to a wreath and decorations.

Move
My inspiration for decorating this year came from ribbon!! I saw the ribbon at a wholesale floral house while I was helping my nephew decide on flowers for his wedding. I didn't pick it up then and when I decided that it was the ribbon, that all the decorating would revolve around, I kept my fingers crossed that a large enough supply would still be there.
How perfect can you get for a diehard stroke painter! Immediately, I knew I would use metallic copper and brass colors, along with my copper coffee pot and brass candle holders. I found round ornaments that were the perfect colors, great big copper cookie cutters for a bargain price at the grocery store and would be painting the stroke design on something or things!
I painted several wooden hearts and stars using the ribbon colors, copper or gold leafing, a little copper-red glitter. I tied them into the bow for the windows,
glued some to floral wire and placed them in my wreaths and in the stairway arrangement,
laid them randomly amongst the reflective metal pieces in my hutch.
and amongst my garland on the curio cabinet.
Using the ribbon I decorated the hutch with boughs and glass ornaments.....
and tucked the painted stars and hearts next to copper.
This painted plate makes a lovely viginette with the brass candlesticks and red candles........
or ornaments and a copper cookie cutter. I love finding more than one way to display my painted pieces!
Our Christmas tree is the centerpiece of all my decorating. Many times the wrapping paper has determined the theme and colors for the year. This year I found beautiful metallic paper colors and that, with the bows, tied it all together!
